Tom Wood 'lighting' the way for Toys for Tots program

Everyone is invited to bring old, unwanted or broken holiday lights to Tom Wood Subaru through Wednesday, December 16. Tom Wood Subaru will then send the lights to Christmas Light Source, where the plastic, wiring, lights, and other parts will be recycled and reused. Christmas Light Source will then donate all proceeds to Avondale YMCA Toys for Tots, which is celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2015.

In 2014, Tom Wood Automotive supplied Toys for Tots with 835 toys as part of its holiday drive. Toys for Tots in turn served more than 6,000 needy families. Tom Wood received congressional recognition from Congress, a proclamation from Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, and a proclamation from Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

Tom Wood Service Manager Bill Demaree spearheaded the effort.

“We spent the morning sorting and passing out toys to the little people and making sure they had a smile on their face,” Demaree said. “This…will be the best year ever. We have doubled the volunteer list to 20 for assisting in passing out the toys come December.”

Holiday lights can be dropped off at Tom Wood Subaru, located at 3300 E 96th Street in Indianapolis, during business hours Monday through Saturday.
